Family Victimization Among Canadian Sexual and Gender Minority Adolescents and Emerging Adults

Résumé

Objectifs : Le présent article analyse la victimisation familiale, le bien-être et la résilience chez les adolescents et les adultes de minorités sexuelles et de genre (MSG) âgés entre 15 et 29 ans.

Méthode : Des données autorapportées ont été recueillies en ligne (2019-2020) auprès de 1 971 jeunes canadiens de MSG. Nous avons utilisé la régression logistique pour estimer les probabilités de/d’ : (a) avoir subi une victimisation familiale au cours des 12 derniers mois ; (b) déclarer un bien-être selon les différentes fréquences de victimisation familiale ; et (c) bien se développer (c.-à-d. s'épanouir malgré la victimisation familiale).

Résultats : Environ 36% des participants ont vécu de la victimisation familiale au cours des 12 mois précédents, et 13% d’entre eux ont rapporté avoir vécu de la victimisation familiale de manière récurrente. La victimisation chronique était plus fréquente chez les jeunes transgenres et non binaires que chez les hommes cisgenres, et était également plus fréquente chez les participants défavorisés sur le plan socio-économique. La victimisation répétée était associée de manière significative à une probabilité plus élevée de rapporter un hétérosexisme intériorisé, des efforts pour dissimuler le genre et l'orientation sexuelle, une santé mentale fragile, une anxiété sociale, une solitude et des symptômes de stress post-traumatique. Les participants épanouis étaient moins susceptibles de voir leurs activités restreintes ou de vivre avec au moins un parent, et plus susceptibles d'obtenir des scores plus élevés sur les échelles d'authenticité, de rapporter l’existence de normes préventives contre la violence au sein de leur famille, et de bénéficier d'une sécurité alimentaire et économique.

Conclusion : Malgré les récents progrès en matière de droits et de reconnaissance des MSG, les jeunes de MSG subissent encore de la victimisation familiale et voient leur bien-être compromis.

Implications : Ces résultats soulignent l'importance du dépistage de la violence familiale chez les jeunes de MSG, en particulier chez les jeunes transgenres et ceux dont le statut socio-économique est faible. Les résultats soulignent également l'importance d'offrir aux jeunes de MSG un environnement familial sécuritaire et une sécurité matérielle.
